Hello!
How can I remove the dual boot menu right after the BIOS start up? I plan on formatting my vista partition and I want to remove the OS selection menu.
Thanks, Brian

Remove Dual Boot Menu
You can either boot to a recovery console using XP's CD, and use the fixboot and fixmbr commands.
-OR-
You can go to Control Panel> System> System Properties> Advanced> Startup & Recovery. There you will see an option that has the default OS and a time for selecting the default. Set that time to 0 or uncheck the box.
Hope this helps!

You can use BCDedit or download and use VistaBootPro (much easier). The Vista boot options screen is new and does not use the boot.ini file. The BCD store is probably stored on your XP system partition and removing the Vista partition may not affect it.

I can tell you from experience that you are correct -- removing a Vista partition does not affect a BCD store on the boot partition.

Edit the boot.ini . You can do it in Notepad as an example

Editing the boot.ini is not going to help because BCD doesn't point to the boot.ini
If Vista is still installed: Throw the dvd in the drive and type X:\Boot\ Bootsect.exe -NT52 All Where X: = your dvd drive letter Restart the pc and NTLDR should load boot.ini instead of bcd Then just flatten the partition that Vista is installed on.
If Vista is already removed: Boot from the XP cd to recovery console In recovery console type fixboot <enter> Then fixmbr <enter> Restart Do the dance of joy as XP boots up sans bcd ;)

You do this in Vista, don't you - so you leave the Vista Boot device untouched but make it invisible; the computer will visibly boot into the XP boot manager (if there is one, as on my PCs) and/or into XP, resp.
Then, successfully having booted into XP, you delete the partition where Vista is installed (after saving all telephone numbers and love e-mails, of course;-).
Correct?
